Natural Hand Dyeing

Botanical dyeing is an intense labor of love. First the fabric is cut and washed to clean of any dirt and then soaked overnight in a mordant. Then we dye the fabric with plants, flowers, and roots to obtain the desired color. The way each piece is dyed is unique and no two pieces are the same. Variations in color and design is something to celebrate.

Hand Painting

Here is a glimpse of the process of creating a hand painted scarf. Each scarf is painted one at a time and is truly a beautiful and unique piece of art. We use a precision process of using wax for drawing on the scarf. Instead of using pencil like drawing on paper, a tool called chanting which uses wax as the ink to draw on the silk is used. The key feature of chanting is to draw on silk while creating a dye separator. The lines that get drawn using chanting will act as a barrier for the dye solution, preventing it from mixing in between the lines and making it possible to color the design in a controlled manner. The process results in a creation of a beautiful scarf as shown in the process.
